LOS ANGELES, CA — September 25, 2026 — Innov8av, a licensed security camera, gate intercom and smart-home contractor serving Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties, today launched a DoorKing-to-DoorBird replacement program for property owners whose gate intercoms depend on a copper telephone line. The program follows the Federal Communications Commission’s June 29, 2026 approval of AT&T’s application to discontinue copper-based voice service across 360 California wire centers, with discontinuance proposed to begin June 1, 2027.
Most telephone-entry systems installed in Los Angeles over the past two decades, including the widely deployed DoorKing 1802 and 1812 panels, work by dialing a resident’s phone over a landline and opening the gate when the resident presses 9. Those panels have no video, no visitor log, and no way to reach a resident who is not at the programmed number. When the copper line behind the panel is retired, the panel cannot place calls at all.
“Many building managers only learn that their gate intercom depends on a phone line on the day it stops working,” said Ben Younes, founder of Innov8av. “The FCC decision puts a date on that for Los Angeles. A cellular adapter keeps the old voice-only panel alive for a monthly fee; a DoorBird replaces it with a camera, an app and no line at all. We want owners to see both options in writing before the line goes dark.”
Under the program, Innov8av visits the gate at no charge, checks the existing wiring, network path and gate operator, and returns a written line-item proposal that lists every device by model number.
